RANDOM NOTES for a new year.
By Michael Levine
LOS ANGELES (Herald de Paris) - LCO Founder and President, Michael Levine, one of the most influential PR voices in the world, helps us kick the year off with a thought-provoking, poignant, and sardonic look at where we are .. and where we’re going:
1. A damn fool with a plan beats a wandering genius 100 times out of a 100.
2. Capitalism doesn’t just create generous wealthy people, but generous poor people, too. Americans give twice as much to charity as the most generous European nations, and the most generous Americans are, in fact, poor Americans.
3. On international science tests, American students perpetually lag behind their peers in other developed countries.
4. As a media expert, I’m often asked my opinion about current events as they relate to media. The most popular question I’m asked these days concerns the extent to which Tiger Woods has damaged his reputation and marketability. Can the Tiger Wood ‘brand’ survive? Yes, although Tiger surely deserves a gold star for illustrating how not to interact with the media.
5. Half-hearted efforts invariably yield only limited results.
6. The start of a new year, a new decade no less, should be marked by a pause in our daily lives. It’s time to get rid of what is dragging us down and to focus on what is working in our lives.
7. Shame seems to have found it’s match in a newer cultural norm: fame. Notoriety isn’t so notorious anymore.
8. In 2009, the stock market had one of its greatest rebounds in history
9. The sorry state of affairs may have become inevitable once reality TV went from trend to epidemic.
10. The little bit of money a kid could earn after school and on the weekends is not nearly as important as the other benefits gained from early work experiences. Any kind of job teaches a youngster that he must be on time, respect supervisors, and develop good work habits. There’s also the self-esteem and pride that comes from being at least financially semi-independent.
11. So much for New Year’s Eve. I don’t respond well to the concept of “forced fun”.
12. I’ll pay ,000.00 cash to anyone that ensures I never have to hear another Christmas song again for the rest of my life.
13. Listening to Beatles music today confirms George Martin was the fifth Beatle.
14. My life has improved since I have chosen to hear “maybe” as “no”.
15. If I ever decide to write a book titled “Weeping for America”, I’ll have no trouble finding material.
16. Life is difficult.
17. Juicers are great but cleaning them is a big pain in the ass.
18. The benefits of exercise are not only physical.
19. Two decades from now, I bet Hilary Swank has two more Academy Awards. At least.
20. If we bother to think about it deeply, Facebook helps teach us that there are a lot of sad, and lonely people in the world.
